The next World of Warcraft expansion, named Warlords of Draenor was announced today at Blizzard’s annual Blizzcon event. In the past few months and since the launch of Blizzard’s most recent expansion, Mists of Pandaria, subscriber numbers have fallen greatly.

Warlords of Draenor is going to be the biggest expansion to hit the World of Warcraft world yet, with a complete revamp of many areas of Azeroth, such as the Outlands and various other places scattered around the Warcraft universe. Character models are also going to receive a greatly needed polygon boost to bring the game up to date with current generation MMORPG’s. This will of course mean that the system requirements to run the game will increase, this has again been confirmed by Blizzard.

Inline with other MMO’s such as SWTOR, World of Warcraft is going to add a new game mechanic called Garrisons. This new system is essentially Blizzard’s call to player housing. Garrisons will come in three different stages, all of which posing unique features. Players will also be able to recruit followers who will be able to undertake dull day to day tasks such as mining, herb gathering and many of the other in-game professions available to the user.
